Outlook - Mail View - How to DISABLE Maximise

I have Outlook 2010 and a wide screen monitor. I can configure my screen so that I have Outlook open on 1/2 of the screen, and another app open (i.e. Internet Explorer), utilising the other 1/2 of the screen (a 50:50 split). When I click on an email (from my inbox) however, the email opens up and Maximises across the entire screen (and in doing so, obscures Internet Explorer). What settings can I change so that the viewed email only takes up 1/2 screen (the same as the outlook instance).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the email message, top right, use the center button to return to normal. Once you do that, new or opened messages should not open maximized. That is how it works for me.

And to take it to another level.... once you do what John said you can size it to what you want. Once you do that close it and open the email again to see it opens exactly the way you want it. I just did this as a test on my machine and it works.

Yes. and that is very similar to using the buttons at the upper right so any of these should work fine.

Hi John...when I tried your approach and opened an email (it went full screen initially), I then dragged it across to the left and it resized (to 1/2 screen). I then closed it down. opened another email, and that just went to the 'minimises' size. it didnt go to the same size as the last 'viewed' email (which was 1/2 screen). so i must have been doing something wrong.

Maybe restart the machine and then try Outlook again for any of the solutions above. My emails always open in a normal window.
