Using Google Drive sync app on a network folder

One of my users wants to install the Google Drive sync app so that she can sync documents from our file server to Google Drive.  As far as I know the sync app only works on local drives and not with network shares.  She is convinced that it can be done and I believe that it will require more than just their sync app to do so (additional software and configurations).  Plus the administrative/security flags are going off in my head.

From a technical standpoint the app alone will not work for what she wants to do correct?
