Google photos won't transfer

Hi, I connected my Samsung 6 phone to my Windows laptop so I could transfer the pictures to my laptop.  It opened my Google photo app on my desktop and I got a message on the phone that said;
"MTP application is not responding.  Do you want to close it?"
I restarted my computer but nothing change.  How can I get this to work? Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
