My wife's IE 11 isn't working correctly.  Any shortcut I try to open shuts immediately and when I go straight the IE icon it opens and say at bottom that closed unexpectedly and if I click restore session then the first icon I clicked on opens also.  Tried restore points but that doesn't solve it.  Updates for last week don't show up so I uninstall any new ones.  Can I install IE 11 on top of old IE 11 and does anyone know a safe link

I've seen IE11 not work with a brand new clean install of Win10.

Personally, I think MS is crippling IE.  I'd suggest using Edge or install Google Chrome.

Please start IE without any extensions and test
iexplore.exe -extoff

if above solutions didn't solve the case then try to reset Internet Explorer and check if it helps.

You can do a Windows 10  Repair Install with an In-place Upgrade to fix that problem.
You will not lose any data files or Apps if you follow the Instructions.
Go to the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from this link:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Click on download tools, save it on desktop,  then run it as Administrator, accept license agreement, then Choose

Upgrade This PC Now, let Windows to Update drivers. make sure that Keep Personal Files and Apps  is Selected

and let the Windows do the rest.

If this does not work, then a full reinstall is required.

You do not need to do a complete reinstall.

Go to then Microsoft media creation link, run it, and do a Windows 10 repair install. Nothing will be lost.

Good for a first try and complete reinstall only if the repair fails.

Could try a system DISM & SFC /SCANNOW repair scan first too before repair install

But in my experience creating a new user account on the PC, and trying IE11 under that profile generally works.
If so, a repair of Windows and all those scans might not be required. Just create a new user profile. If it works, migrate data & voila. Done.
