IPC$ is the predefined share for (remote) inter-process communication. It is used if you use only the server name to connect, instead of server/share name combination. There is no physical location it is mapped to, though.
Anyway., user authentication for IPC$ is the same as for any ohter share.

Even i tried all the possibilities for the authentication. Is there any other issues with legacy OS
XP to W7 should still work. Older OS may have an issue.
Are you certain you can use the W7 share from another machine, or from the W7 itself?
Yes from other win7 and self its working fine
hi, are you trying to see with this solution:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then double-click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
On the right side, double-click restrictanonymous.
Make sure that the value in the Value data box is set to 0, and then click OK.
Close Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.

Let me try that  and i will get back to you all
OK
Let me know your feedback
Its not working as windows xp need to connect windows 7 share
You did it at the W7 machine?
Yes . But not working at all. Still asking the IPC$ credentials
Is the XP machine joined to the same domain as the Windows 7 computer, or is a domain even involved ?  Have you tried entering credentials to see what happens ?  You can enter any userID that is valid on the Windows 7 computer.

How are you trying to map to the share?  If you are using the Net Use command, you can enter:

Net Use v: \\server\share /user:User_ID Password

This won't prompt for anything.
Its still not working !
