IPC$ is the predefined share for (remote) inter-process communication. It is used if you use only the server name to connect, instead of server/share name combination. There is no physical location it is mapped to, though.<br />
Anyway., user authentication for IPC$ is the same as for any ohter share.

Are you certain you can use the W7 share from another machine, or from the W7 itself?

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.<br />
Locate and then double-click the following registry subkey:<br />
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\<wbr />CurrentCon<wbr />trolSet\Co<wbr />ntrol\Lsa<br />
On the right side, double-click restrictanonymous.<br />
Make sure that the value in the Value data box is set to 0, and then click OK.<br />
Close Registry Editor.<br />
Restart the computer.<br />

Is the XP machine joined to the same domain as the Windows 7 computer, or is a domain even involved ? &nbsp;Have you tried entering credentials to see what happens ? &nbsp;You can enter any userID that is valid on the Windows 7 computer.<br />

How are you trying to map to the share? &nbsp;If you are using the Net Use command, you can enter:<br />
<br />
Net Use v: \\server\share /user:User_ID Password<br />
<br />
This won't prompt for anything.
