Restore Files From Wiped Mac

Hi,

I bought a new mac and gave my old one to my friend yesterday.

I thought I had everything backed upo but it turns out i am missing a project folder that did not copy over.

I wiped my old mac completely (from boot up) before giving it to my friend. Is there any way to recover the previous installation and files?
