The problem with offline defrag is the room needed to perform it, and the way the array is configured I have no way to currently expand it for more space

Although it'll slow down the server, you could either back up the server multiple times a day - which will commit the logs to the EDB and clear them - or use the larger external drive as storage for the log files and back up on your usual schedule.

Running a backup is how I lost the 10GB I freed up on Friday, so that's not a good solution it seems.

The current HP Proliant raid drives are 72GB Ultra320 SCSI hard drives - 10,000 RPM, 3.5-inch large form factor so best I could do with two empty drive bays and I think two new spare drives is put them in the array as a separate RAID 0 and move the .edm

RAID 0 provides no redundancy and is riskier than a single drive. Hopefully you mean to add a RAID 1 mirror set.

Two 72GB drives in RAID 1 does not give me enough room to move anything except the 10GB in logs which will not be enough I don't believe. Better to try and get the .edb or .stm file moved and create 96gb of room.

Yes, will be moving to Exchange 2010. Circular logging was enabled in the past, had become disabled, oddly. I cleared committed logs and turned on circular logging. D current has 10GB free which should hopefully get through the week.

You need to restart the information store service after enabling circular logging, else it will not take the effect.

I removed log files Friday which created free space of 10GB, but that has now filled up today. There is another couple gigabytes of logs I could delete. I currently have stopped the Exchange services.<br />

I need this server up and running for Monday and have a new server being prepped for next Friday. The below is the best thought I have come up with for now...<br />

Is it possible to follow these instructions linked below and move the 96GB .edb and/or 92GB .stm file to a new NTFS formatted 2TB External USB 2.0 drive?<br />
