Referencing in Headings in MS Word

I am creating a document in Microsoft Word.
I would like to have several lists of items and be able to cross reference them among themselves. The problem I am facing is that i need to have the reference in the numbering.

Example:
M-01
M-02
M-03

A1-02 - where "02" is reference to M-02
A1-03 - where "03" is next item of the list -  previous item +1
A2-02 - again reference to M-02
A2-03 - +1
A2-04 - +1

These lists are long enough to do it by hand and are changing time to time, hance the cross-reference.

I do not need that to be headlines or lists, just any automated solution is ok. I do not even mind using Excel to do that, but I am not sure how to reference there.

Thanks a lot, any help appreciated!

It's not entirely clear what you need as the end result. Can you post a small example where you have done it manually?
is this what you are after?
Create a cross-reference Applies To: Word 2016 Word 2013 Word 2010 Word 2007

A cross-reference allows you to link to other parts of the same document. For example, you might use a cross-reference to link to a chart or graphic that appears elsewhere in the document. The cross-reference appears as a link that takes the reader to the referenced item

Hello, thank you for the replys.

@Paul Sauvé: No, cross referencing is only part of my question.
@GrahamSkan: The example is in the text of the question. Ill try to expand that below.

Example:
Main list
M-01
M-02
M-03

Second list
A1-02 - where "02" is reference to M-02
A1-03 - where "03" is next item of the list -  previous item +1

Third list
A2-02 - again reference to M-02
A2-03 - previous item +1
A2-04 - previous item +1

These are captions to the list, which are followed by some text. The problem is that during time, in the main list (M-01...) a item can be added or deleted most probably in the middle of the list. When numbering in the main list changes, I need to change numbering accordingly in the second list too - automatically.

I am probably able to reference the main list in the second list, but I cant do "continue numbering"  - how to automatically do A1-03.

Thank you.
I think that the expectation that a Word document can become completely interactive like a windows form or a web page is optimistic.

We might be able to achieve something with a VBA macro to be run whenever the view needs to be updated, but even that is hopeful.

What sort of cross-referencing are you doing? How to you get paragraph numbering in that format?
you may be able to accomplish this using Lists, which update automatically and inserting Bookmarks, which always stay in the same place.
