VM replication scenario and caveats ?

People,

I need to know what's the difference in between using VMware 6.0 replication and Veeam Backup & Replication v9.5 ?

My requirement is:
1. To have the VM replicated from the Production Datacenter into the DR Datacenter smoothly at a certain time interval (the Differences only) eg. every 2 hours to 60 minutes.
2. Same IP address and slightly different name (to indicate it is replicated VM) so it is ready to start when the DR strikes, but how do I avoid if someone turning on the replicated VM in DR datacenter?

My assumption is that both the replication is like taking VM clone (long) initially and then snapshotting it to send the difference to the remote DR data center.

The VM replication is on the storage array level or is it on the VM level ?

Thanks, Andrew, and Congratulations on the Level 120 :-)

I am using Veeam Backup 9.5 Enterprise edition (no storage snapshot) and also licensed for vSphere Enterprise Plus edition.

So rather than spending anotehr few thousand $ for SRM license, I'm trying to leverage my current licensed software.

SRM is a little different, and Veeam Replication may give you the features you require.

Hi Andrew,

Does implementing the Veeam Backup & Replication v9.5 Enterprise Edition (with Storage Array Snapshot capability) can be any better when performing the replication as oppose to the normal VM snapshot?

My understanding with SRM is that, SRM acts as the Orchestrator in the DR scenario by leveraging the Storage Array snapshot.
So between SRM and VBR, which one is better for the price and usability ?
