Distance range for Chromecast or others

I'd like to use a monitor to broadcast information about company events in our cafeteria (probably will be a powerpoint or similar with info on slides that rotates). The pc that it broadcasts from will be in another room that's locked so no one can access it. What is the physical range to do a chromecast or similar type of broadcast?  There is great wifi in all the rooms, so is it determined by wifi strength? Any issues going through walls, etc?

As long as you can achieve a signal of around 25dB SNR you should be ok to stream to the Chromecast.  Range will depend on a few things so it'd be important to know what the room construction is.  A partitioned wall will attenuate a signal far less than a solid block wall, for example, so the range would be better through plasterboard... potentially.

Distance can be a problem as faster data-rates can't be achieved over longer distances.  If you're streaming less than 10Mbps you'd be ok using 802.11n rather than 802.11ac, for example, but the distance you can connect over is probably less than 30ft without degrading the signal too much.
