Reboot Schedule

Hi,

I have a GPO configured to restart all client computers every Friday at 11:45PM. Somehow few random devices are being restarted automatically on Thursday.
I have checked GPO settings multiple times and did not find any issues with that. Even disabled GPO but still same issue. Can anyone here please advise what could be causing this other than GPO.
Thank you in advance.

Event Viewer Logs;
The process C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe (ID20305) has initiated the restart of computer ID20305 on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
 Reason Code: 0x800000ff
 Shutdown Type: restart

If your GPO is to reboot clients on the Friday and this is happening on a Thursday for some clients and still happening when disabled - I think it is safe to say it is not this policy.

If it is being restarted I would look at these options:

  • Look further into your Event Logs to find the point of failure
  • Check there are no Scheduled Tasks causing the reboot

Were there Windows/3rd party apps updates done on the computers?  The updates may be applied to a certain computer at random not all and hence only a few computers restart earlier.
