Real time update using Excel thats linked to a second worksheet on same network
Hey guys,
I am planning in using Excel to display data on a largeTV for Real time analysis by staff members..
What I would like is to have 2 excel files ...
DisplayFile and DataFile...
The DisplayFile.xls will be open on a win7 machine connected to the large TV and a secondary Datafile.xls will will have unique data manually entered throughout the shift and I would like this data to automatically update on the TV.
Currently this all works fine when both files are open on the same physical machine but if I move the files to either a network share or different machines then the auto update doesn't work...
Naturally the display file document reference the data in the Datafile of Excel....
ANy advice?

you say
the auto update doesn't work...
Is this a macro or ... ?
Can you post both files ?

The files must be sync for the update to take place

I have attached files - Nothing top secret in them
At the moment I have them on a network share as you will see from the internal links and references..
I would like to change a value in Dispatch.xlsx (Sheet 1) - you can ignore sheet 2 for this problem... But I would like the change auto updated in the file on my TV called (MessageBoard)
This works fine if both files are located on my machine but cant seem to get it working when files opened from 2 different machines.
1) You say: I would like to change a value in Dispatch.xlsx (Sheet 1)
What is it you want to change in sheet1 ??
2) You say: I would like the change auto updated in the file on my TV called (MessageBoard)
What auto update ? you mean edit links ??
What are you trying to achieve exactly ?

Simply put if I change Column B in Dispatch from yes to no then a different icon should appear on the messageboard (on the TV) so that staff can change details and it updates in the call centre.
Same applies for C,D and E... All works fine when both files are on the same machine....
I have of course enabled "External Content" in the trust centre..
thanks Michael

ok I am testing it but missing these so I can simulate without an error

Let me have this correctly as you are using in your question post file names that are not the same of the file you posted. Correct me if I am wrong:
1)
The file that will be connected to the TV is and will be macro activated and always running:
Message-Board.xlsm
And, the file in which you intent to make modifications will be:
Dispatch.xlsx
2)
Dispatch.xlsx will be located on server and Message-Board.xlsm can be sitting anywhere on server or user station.
3)
A user opens Dispatch.xlsx and make modifications .... and you expect them to appear on TV as linked to Message-Board.xlsm
Is this what you want ? pls clarify specifically by point where it is not.

Gowflow - That is correct...
Your description is perfect...
Mike
You may delete the png references and just use column D - if that value changes to a time then a Red Icon should appear with the appropiate time shown....

Note: Works fine if both files are located on the same machine.......
