Hi experts,

We have vSOM with entreprise plus license.

Do we need a separate license key applied to vRealize solution in order to create a reports with customized views?
Another question, Can the existent reports list vCPU usage for all the running VMs?

Thanks in advance

If you have vSOM Enterprise Plus you should be able to create reports with customized views.

All your keys will be available to you in MyVMware.

vCPU are referred to in the waste reports.

In fact, vSOM is a license package that includes vSphere Standard, Enterprise, or Enterprise Plus Edition, combined with vSphere Operations Standard Edition :

https://www.packtpub.com/mapt/book/virtualization-and-cloud/9781785284755/1/ch01lvl1sec12/vrealize-operations-editions-and-licensing

In my case, it should be vSphere entreprise plus edition combined with vSphere Operations Standard Edition which does not support customizable Dashboard and reports :

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/502747

So as far as I understand I should purshare additional license to be able to create customized reports to list the vCPU usage per VM

it was past sense, article is old....

and that ALL changed as of.....

March 1st 2016.... when the product range was changed.

e.g. vSphere Standard and vSphere Enterprise Plus, as Enterprise not longer exists!

You also need to check, because you also had up until March 31st 2016......for legacy orders....which can be renewed up until 2020.

So I would check what licenses you have.

Please have a look to the following link which compare the product licensing :

http://www.vmware.com/products/vrealize-operations.html#compare

According to the above link, vSOM includes  vRealize operation management standard edition

That link is correct, there are Standard, Advanced and Enterprise versions of vRealize Operations.

So As far as I understand, vSOM includes only standard vRealize operation management.
If we would like to create customized reports we need to upgrade at least to the advanced edition.

Hi Andrew,
Yes please.
I have tested the standard Edition of vSOM with predefined template reports in order to generate CPU and memory usage inventory and found that resource utilization metrics shown by OS and other monitoring tools does not match with those shown in vRealize Operations Manager.
Memory usage for some VMs is around 100% according to the OS metrics and does not exceed 50% according to the vSOM.
Shall we rely on vSOM metrics? Can we compare both metrics (vSOM and OS metrics)? if not why?
Thank you

I'm afraid this is a different question, and off topic from the original question posted about licensing and vSOM.

Please select a Answer, and close this question, and please post a new question to the VMware topic area, and myself or other expert will be glad to assist.

Ok, I will de so.
Regarding this post.. I can confirm that vSOM Entreprise plus includes vRealize operation manager standard Edition which does not allow customized reports.
vSOM Entreprise plus = vSphere Entreprise plus + vRealize operation manager standard Edition
Hence we can only use predefined templates. we cannot even assign a view to an existent report.
If customized reports are needed we need to move to the Advanced or Entreprise Edition of vRealize
This is the best answer but I will choose one of the latest Andrew's answers because he assisted me to find the solution.

VMware does not give everything away for FREE, it's a taster and if you find useful, you'll need to upgrade, and pay them some money.
