Windows 10 and WSUS
Good morning, here below the situation.
Desktop Dell Optiplex 3040 brand new with Win10 that give an error 0x8024401c performing Win update.
Tried MS update troubleshooting tool: no joy.
Tried clean start setting with MSCONFIG and with Wupdate service in manual: no joy.
Tried to delete wupdate directory (C:\Windows\SoftwareDistri bution\Dow nload) contents: no joy
In brief, all tricks suggested around on the web by now.
Recovered to factory installation via Windows 10 tool and I noticed that the tool adviced me that,
doing that, I will lost the possibility to go back to "the previous Window version" (?).
Now it seems that Dell upgraded this PC to Win 10 from Win 7.
In this case, giving that also Win 7 have several update problems and needs the single installation
of a couple of KB with a clean start before Wupdate works, could it be possible that Dell didn't solve
Win 7 problem before upgrade to Win 10 and that this affect the current O.S.?
Thanks for you attention.
Massimo.

If the update to Windows 10 completed you can do a clean install of Windows 10 and it should work.
Of course backup any data and settings if needed,
You can use the link below to create the install media.

Thanks all for your answer.
I have already reset PC to factory installation so I do not have backup problems.
I check Win10 and I see v1607 so, following Edward link, I creates a Win10 media but now,
if I installal on Dell PC, which activation key should I use?
The OS on the machine is OEM.

You should not need a key. As long as the system was upgraded to Windows 10 Microsoft has the key stored and the system should automatically activate..
if it"s brand new - i suggest to return it to the seller, and ask for a repair or replacement

Thanks all.
Installing build 1703 solved the problem.
