asked on

practical cap for teen in hi-temperature region (summer)

there are too many cap options in amazon.com,
can you recommend what would be practically and also 'technology' wise (make material, construction, concept) best suited for a Teen boy
who is going to travel to a very hot (sunny) region for a few  weeks program in summer.

 thanks for any ideas.

cap on...?  his head? his heat exposure?  his phone calls? his pen?  I could go on and on guessing, but, I am not being an ass, I'm honestly not sure what kind of cap would be influenced by a hot region exactly, could you please expound on it a little further?

That seems a solid answer!

How about one of those Australian bug hats, they're like gardeners has but have corks hanging off them to keep the bugs away!

>>Baseball caps have always been fashionable
good points.

so whether for casual wear in Toronto in March or for face-shade in Phoenix in June, a regular cap is the option we have, right? there is nothing about 'caps made for more warmer places', except for some good options like straw hat, but which teen may not easily be inclined to wear, as pointed out...

if it is just baseball cap as best option, a walmart trip may do right?

Also, this is a teen so you may want to present them the choice of a few options.

I can say without question that as a teen I would have preferred (and I still do prefer a to this day as an adult) a ventilated brimmed hat for hot weather. but my mother would always buy me ballcaps which I didn't like wearing.

I find these are particularly wonderful in places with large amounts of sun regardless of humidity.

If you want face-shared this is your best option by far, as you may turn your head and still find protection from the sun, this is one of the main reason I prefer them, as I find my blue eyes are very sensitive to sunlight.

A good ventilated version will look stylish on a teen or an adult and still be very light to the point of forgetting yo are wearing it, and cool in hot weather.

If a ball-cap is still preferred another opportunity presents itself,  I'm aware that Hammacher Schlemmer put out a very nice version of a ventilated ball-cap designed to be wetted to provide an evaporative cooling effect.

If you are going to a less humid or dry climate this will be far superior if a ball-cap is preferred to use this cooling one.

If you are going to a very humid climate, say Florida, it wouldn't be as useful.  So if a ball cap is still preferred then  I'd just go with a well ventilated mesh-only cap with a few headbands for soaking up the sweat.

Having multiple headbands is key so he can always have a fresh one while the previous day(s) sweatbands are in the wash; otherwise, you run the risk of ending up with a hat that stinks and people who give you looks for having a smelly ball-cap on youe head.

And yes you can certainly head on down to wall-mart or target to check on their supply, although you might want to google a couple of these on-line first to check reviews and prices.
