asked on
efficient backup report for SQL Server
from your experience, what format of reports have helped the most to observe what backups happened or not and if there was any hiccups etc.
example:
do you care if one TLB (transaction log) got missed or did not finish well, or
would you want to know if 2 TLB did not happen back to back
etc

Check Quest LiteSpeed. It has central management and useful central reporting
@Alexander,
We use Quest lightspeed, but do so through the T-SQL scripting of the backups through the lightspeed stored procedures, I didn't realize it could centrally manage things across servers somehow.

i was more interested in how you get the reporting setup. let's say you have 20 servers, 30 instances (including named), and 150 databases. how do you set up reporting on each to have a proper and quick perspective each morning if backups are as expected. what criterias do you emphasis on those reports? do you create those reports yourself or do you use a tool?
thanks
