USB 3 PCI-E card in a PCI-E 1.0 slot

I have an old Dell server that I would like to use to run a backup function. So, I would like to connect external USB 3 backup drives to it. The problem with that scenario is that the Dell server has USB 2 ports. It does however have a PCI-E slot which is 1st generation. If I were to put a third generation PCI-E card in it with USB 3 ports on it, would I see an improvement in backup speed over just using the USB 2 sockets?

The card will work, but as Ramin said you will see reduced speeds.

How much data are you backing up? Connecting external drives like that to a server isn't the most efficient way to backup data unless you don't have a lot of data or no budget to work with. You may be better off setting up a NAS device.

I am backing up about 400GB of data from a NAS.
if hotswapping the sata drive is an option for you, that would be the fastest you can get
