Re: Restricting editing in word whilst another user is using/editing file

HI,

Just wondering if anyone out there knows how to lock a word file whilst another user is accessing the same file. I have shared folders and files stored in dropbox but trying to avoid duplication of files.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure this isn't possible due to the nature of MS word. It has its own mechanisms for "locking" in this situation and will create conflict copies.

I'm almost 100% certain that you couldn't lock files over a cloud based service such as Dropbox either, again they have their own conflict resolution procedures.

Is there any particular reason you need this functionality to be so locked down?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response. I am currently using Dropbox and have for a while but recently realised that numerous versions of word document has been occurring. I am trying to find a way that if those that share a folders with me will be locked out from editing pending when editing is completed.

Thanks.
