Sound player that offers 5 second rewinds

Anyone know of any Windows based platform software that will allow me to listen to an audio file containing narrative / meeting comments in which I need to constantly rewind a few second by clicking a button (rather than dragging a scroll bar) so that I can listen to the same speech again.  I need to write the minutes of a meeting each month and using the default windows audio player or iTunes does not quite cut it.

Ideally something free and offers like the Amazon Prime video feature, the ability to rewind or fast forward 5 seconds at a time by clicking a button.

Thanks.

but does the rewind take to the beginning of the MP3 file or 5 seconds back?
Only 5 seconds each time. and I think you can change this time from settings.

left Arrow key on keyboard.
Also don't install Winamp agent during Installation / Disable it after Installation.

I have downlaoded winamp and can confirm that the left button does indeed rewind it 5 sec.  However, if I have an MS Word document open and am typing in there verbatim from the audio in Winamp and need to rewind 5 sec, is there an easier way to do this without having to keep using alt tab to bring winamp to the forefront?  I have three screens so just wondering if there is another convenient way of doing what I am trying to do?
Yes, Ctrl+A  Always on top.

Or right click on Winamp, Options, Always on top.

Ok but I assume that is to keep winamp in the foreground, but the moment I am typing in a word document, to rewind 5 seconds, using left arrow will move the cursor in the document rather than rewind 5 seconds, so I would still need to click on winamp again to make it the active application?
Yes, because your active Object is Word,
The Media Player plugin works without Media Player being in focus so you can work in Word and use it

Shaun - which is the button you click to skip back the predefined time period?

Shaun - I still need to check your solution.  Thanks.
Total Recorder shortcut do not work in background the way Media Player Plugin works

I don't know what you mean by that. When you click the "Left by step" button, it goes back whatever time interval is set, such as 5 seconds; when you click the "Right by step" button, it goes forward whatever time interval is set, such as 5 seconds. You may either click the buttons with the mouse (see screenshot above) or use the keyboard shortcuts — Ctrl-L or the less-than sign for back (left); Ctrl-T or the greater-than sign for forward (right). This is exactly what u587162 wants. Regards, Joe
Try that without having Total Recorder as active application, say with word open
> Try that without having Total Recorder as active application, say with word open

Ah, now I see...missed that u587162 is doing transcription. I have two solutions for that. One is a hotkey (in AutoHotkey or whatever scripting language you prefer) that would switch between Word and Total Recorder. This approach is described in this EE thread:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28486055/Script-to-swap-active-programs-in-Windows-7.html

It would also be simple to define easy-to-hit hotkeys, such as F11 for back and F12 for forward, that would (1) activate the Total Recorder window, (2) send the appropriate keystroke (< or >) to Total Recorder, and (3) reactivate the Word window — all in the blink of an eye. :)

Second idea is a piece of software called Dictation Buddy from the same company as Total Recorder (High Criteria):
http://www.libertyrecording.com/TB_main_Recorder.htm

It supports a foot pedal. I use it with an Infinity USB Digital Foot Control for transcription — works great! Regards, Joe
This is normal to assign keyboard shortcuts (Hotkey) to any Action,

Yes, but a critical issue when transcribing is for the audio back/forward hotkey to be pressed while in Word, then automatically activate and switch to the audio software, send the back/forward action, then activate and switch back to Word. That's what a scripting language like AutoHotkey can easily do.
WmpKeys does that without swapping between apps, seamlessly

Yes, Shaun, I checked it right now. It worked without swapping between them.

Fair enough. I never use Windows Media Player, so wouldn't know about that. I prefer third-party tools for media, such as Total Recorder and VLC. I remember trying WMP years ago and did not like the way that it forced me into using its infrastructure. It may have improved since then, but I've never been tempted to try it again, as I'm perfectly happy with other media tools. But, hey, that's me — I also never use My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, My This and My That — I prefer to store files where I want them. :)  Regards, Joe
To activate Winamp Hotkeys just tick the "Enabled" check box  #a42125537

Shaun - Im using win 10 at home and trying your method, I do not see the WMP keys plugin as per the method shown in the link.
Try Winamp with Hotkeys Enabled, I checked it and it works fine. Ctrl+Alt+left to Rewind and left key also works in word.

Update - I've manage to download the msi file after searching for WMP keys.  Sorry to ask this stupid question, but I havent used Windows media player for years....in the version I have, how on earth are you supposed to open a file located in a certain folder?  There just simply is no menu system that I can see where I can go /File/Open!

Also, my winamp is so tiny I can hardly see the screen - its as if the screen resolution is so large that only winamp is tiny.  How do I change it?

You can Also move the mouse to the corners and left click on the Edge and Drag the edge.

How did you get that menu, I dont see the same options as you, I have nothing called windows settings / scaling?
Right click on any area on Winamp.
Also change the skin to Winamp Modern. ( right click, Skins )
and Close Media Library window.

I'm using version 5.666 which I have downloaded and I don't see the windows setting / scaling option.  What version are you using?

Is there anyway to toggle the speed of the playback for either Wimamp and WMP?
All versions have this ability, but you have to find it. I'm sure about this.

you need to download this free Plug-in for Winamp.
