VMware ESXi and Veeam Backup & Replication - VMware license requirements

Hi Everyone

Thought it would be easier to ask as im just wasting time searching around on the internet.

I want to use Veeam backup and replication.

I have a physical host running VMware ESXi (free version) with 4 VM servers on.

Veeam backup and replication says it will not work on ESXi free edition. But what edition/ license of ESXi do I need to buy??? ESXi free edition does everything I need, so I don't need to spend money on VMware products, licenses that I don't need... what is the minimum I can purchase to enable me to use Veeam Backup & Replication??? Is there simply a paid version of ESXi license I can buy and input the license key so I can use Veeam?

With Vmware free versions you just can't use Veeam and almost every other Vmware backup application. In the free version the API calls that are needed to perform the backup are locked/disabled so the only way i have found is to use HPE VM explorer which uses a different technique
If you don't need vMotion you can get the required functionality by buying the vSphere Essentials license.

Thanks for the reply John. I understand the product you have recommended would provide my backup instead of Veeam. But I do want to use Veeam, I like the product.
I would like to know what product/ license I have to pay for (VMware product) which will then allow me to use Veeam?

12 commercial software backup products for VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) you should be evaluating today

Essentials for approx $500 will do it, BUT you do KNOW there are NO Backup Apps which work with the ESXi FREE license ?
HPE VM Explorer (formerly Trilead VM Explorer) can backup VMs on a free Esxi...It creates a snapshot of the running machine and backups the snapshot....but it doesn't use the Backup enging of ESXI...

VMware
VMware

VMware, a software company founded in 1998, was one of the first commercially successful companies to offer x86 virtualization. The storage company EMC purchased VMware in 1994. Dell Technologies acquired EMC in 2016. VMware’s parent company is now Dell Technologies. VMware has many software products that run on desktops, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS, which allows the virtualizing of the x86 architecture. Its enterprise software hypervisor for servers, VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on the server hardware and does not require an additional underlying operating system.
