testing a port being open in firewall

What is the best way to test which port is open between domain controllers? We have 2 domain controllers at different sites and our network team is suppose to open up the firewall ports. I wanted to test it out to make sure the ports are open.

A port is not really open until there is a program or service that listens to that port and responds.  Just telling the firewall to allow it doesn't make it really 'open'.  Without a listener to respond, you can't tell that it is open from outside.

Dave is right.  If it shows closed then its either being blocked or there is no service using that port. You can look through the firewall and see what ports are being forwarded and if they are active.
