Server 2008, large number of updates
I've got a 2008 SBS that's showing 145 updates available & am leery of letting them all go at once. I aolso wonder if there are some that have been replaced or updates by later ones. Is there anyway to find out what are the most recent & most important? Categories at top of page only show name & size, no way to list by date.

Other than clicking on each one & looking at the info that pops up on the right, how can I tell the date? I would think you could add date to the headings at the top of window, but all I have are name & size.

Thank you!
You are very welcome, I was happy to help, and good luck with updates. Once done, schedule for every patch Tuesday.
I've heard a few people caution against doing that many at once, but honestly, I always do them all and rarely *IF EVER* run into problems. (This happens either as a new install is done or when I go to a new client who doesn't do updates regularly).
I normally do them all at once, but sometimes I have had to resort to groups of updates. The latter occurs when updates have not been done.

As it turns out, after the 3rd group of updates, something is hung up on the reboot...
Can you restart and get started?

Compuetr was at the log in screen, odd that I couldn't connect to it remotely at that point. USer logged in & after over an hour at applying computer settings, I had them force shut it down, restart in safe mode. It got to the desktop relatively quickly & then had them restart normally & we're back to the applying settings...

And after neaqrly an hour, applying user settings...
There may be something amiss with your server as this is not an update issue.
Try running System File Checker: SFC /SCANNOW from an admin command prompt

I'm assuming after booting off of install DVD, or restart in safe mode?
You can try SFC from Safe Mode - that will work.

Restoring to last backup.

And after 2 hrs, restore completed successfully & computer booted up in about 10 minutes.
This one is outta here at the end of the month, so he'll with its updates & hopefully it won't be such an issue in 2016.

That sounds like good news and thanks for the update.
Pick the dozen oldest (in time), select and update, restart and do the same thing again.
You could work in groups of 25 and be done in 6 cycles.
