where is outlook 2016 getting the names it shows in the to line on an incoming email??
I get an email in outlook 2016 through my pop mail server (if that matters), with the specific email I am looking at sent from gmail... but I think this is a generic question.
On the to line, along with my name, it might show 'steve smith'; 'bob jones'; etc.... the other people it was sent to, with each name in single quotes (this is a group mailing)
Each is a hyperlink - i can hover on a name and a little window pops up with the contact image (just the default outline), and the mail icon is clickable. A down arrow brings up a bigger contact window with that person's email address.
My question - where is it getting all those person's names? From the sender's contact list? or is it matching to my contact list? Don't think that's the case, 'cause I don't have some of those people.
and when I send an email, is it also picking up the person's name and including it along with their email?
If I was to have a contact for 'bob (what a butthead) smith' with email bobsmith@gmail.com, when I type an email to bob smith, does he see that name I have for him!?
Is there a way to keep that from being sent? so he just sees it was sent to bobsmith@gmail.com?

But by default that displayname field gets populated by what you type above anyway,
You need to start with identifying whether you're selecting the recipient from the AddressBook or typing in the TO(Cc.Bcc) field (auto-complete cache)
Is there a way to default it to the email address in the contact page?
Not if you're using the auto-complete cache for the recipient. If you only want the email address for the Email DisplayName for existing contact items, you'll need to enter that into the EDN field keeping in mind that outlook will revert to the default format any time the email address is edited.
There's a chance your comments you make to yourself in your contact about someone gets sent to them!? Could be embarrassing : )
You lost me on that one.
After you have sent or received emails, MS Outlook 2016 is intelligent enough to pick up the information regarding the senders and recipients and put the information in Suggested Contacts.

Ah, that field below the email address field in the contact!? Not the name I typed or the file by field? But by default that displayname field gets populated by what you type above anyway,
Is there a way to turn off sending the displayname? Is there a way to default it to the email address in the contact page?
Right? There's a chance your comments you make to yourself in your contact about someone gets sent to them!? Could be embarrassing : )
