asked on

cant install chrome on win 10 machine...THEN...

i have looked everywhere and tried everything i could find on here, various other sites and google support forum...with no success.

1. when downloading chrome, the file saves. i click to run/install...sometimes it will ask me to verify changes to hd, but most of the time nothing.

2. i decided to do a clean install of win10...i download the tool, accept their t & c, select keep nothing...the preparing a few things box opens like its beginning & then nothing...just closes & nothing else happens.

3. i started with trying to reset by going to settings recovery & selected keep my files it ran about 15 minutes and then told me there was a problem and nothing was changed...

any thoughts?

Specifically only with Chrome or even when trying to install other software as well?

Run the Chrome Cleanup Tool then try to reinstall.
Hi Deed,

What browser did you use for downloading Chrome? Is it Internet explorer or Microsoft Edge?

hi kyu lapiz, ive tried edge & firefox...i also tried to get ie with no success.

wayne88 so far chrome, ie & win reset
dj3094...will try that!
Hi Deed,

If you have downloaded the 64 bit before, try to install the 32 bit. Also make sure you are downloading the browser from Google's official website.
Kyu Lapiz...Hi! Lol...I did that. Also, tried Canary...all with the same out put...just nothing happens.
even store option didn't work?
If you have anti virus try install after disabling that
Hi Wayne88...I ran it & it said, no programs found. Chrome has never been successfully installed on this machine.
Hi dj3094...tried that too.
dj3094...your link took me to vigilink.com...some shopping site...
open Microsoft store and search for chrome
hi dj3094...I forgot, I DID try to find google chrome as an app...I do not see one, the only thing I see is a google chrome guide.
If you have another computer, try to use the alternate offline installer. You can try the alternate link below to download Chrome on a different computer.

On a computer connected to the Internet, download the alternate Chrome installer.
Move the file to the computer where you want to install Chrome.
Open the file, and follow the onscreen instructions to install.
If you land on the regular download page, that’s normal. Even though the installers look similar, a special tag tells us which one is best for you.
Once you download the file, you can send it to another computer.
so I download to another computer then send over the downloaded file? This one confuses me, because it doesn't seem as though downloading the file is the issue...in fact, that is the only part seeming to work.
Sorry about that. I forgot to include the offline Chrome installer. Try to use the link below.

https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html?standalone=1
Kyu Lapiz, How can I send it to the other computer...?
copy it to usb drive and transfer it
After you download the file to a working computer, you may transfer it to the computer where you want the Chrome to be installed via Bluetooth or USB.
dj 3094...oh yeah...duh. so sorry. Thanks you guys.
it says I can't run the app on this PC, to check with the software publisher...

=[
that happened when I tried to run as admin...^
isn't it weird that I can't factory reset???
open elevated cmd and run
SFC /scannow and check any errors

do you recommend I do anything with this?

Do you have admin rights on this account?

Are you able to create another account with admin rights and try it there?

What software have you recently installed?
I guess you tried to perform Startup Repair and than System restore (from a restore point). If neither of them worked I would perform System Reset.
If you want to reset your PC I recommend to remove all files (you can follow these steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuljT0a8F7I)
I do have admin rights...I will try to make another admin acct & try there...It will NOT let me System Reset. That is the problem I find the most odd. That is the point I am at. I just want to start over, I have no files I need to save. I have installed a wireless printer only...with success. Tried to install IE, Chrome, no success.
IF you cannot perform System Reset, try to get WIN 10 CD. If you don't want to buy recovery DVD from your computer support I suggest you to ask your friends, colleagues...
open gpedit.msc
computer configuration>system>specify settings for optional component installation and component repair
enable and chose download repair content and optional features(2nd option)
then
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
sfc /scannow
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow

try these
What version of Windows 10?

Chrome will not run on Windows 10 S
