Windows 2003 SBS Multiple Domain Controllers issue
Hi Folks
I have an old Windows 2003 SBS server which I'm running for a client. It's been absolutely fine for a good few years but suddenly this morning it shut down. Looking in the event log I see there's an error under "System" which says there are multiple domain controllers running on the network and that the server will shut down automatically unless one or more of them are removed....
Stumped. All other Windows servers running on the network are set to Workgroup not domain. This is the only domain controller. How do I resolve this issue? Any help appreciated.
Cheers

You have servers that weren't decommissioned correctly I'd guess. run NTDSUtil and see if you have old metadata for domains in there.

Hi Folks - thanks for your quick replies.
@Kimputer: I noticed that there were two network connections connected. The unit is a virtual VMWare machine and so it also has the VMware network connection. I disabled the alternate network and that appears to have resolved the DOMAIN CONTROLLER issue. I'll check again in a little while and confirm this.
@Alex: No - this is the only SBS Server and the only one running as a domain controller on the network.
Cheers

Although the initial responses were helpful, the issue was resolved by an edit of the registry. Many thanks to all for the responses to the question.
