No Remote Desktop License Server Available

Hello, we have 2012 R2 Server with RdS Installed and 5 cals. Users were logging in today, and are getting "the remote session was disconnected because there are no remote desktop license servers available to provide a license. Please contact the server administrator"

Please help with this.

Hi, I had this before (albeit more cals) and the following fixed our issue:

Open up the registry editor on the TS Server
Browse to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM
Make a backup copy of the GracePeriod registry key
Then you can Delete the GracePeriod registry key
Reboot server then hopefully it's resolved.

Cheers

How do your user login to the RDS?

Via physical machine or a VDI?
Kenny Innes suggestion likely works *ONLY* if you setup a trail first and let the trial time expire before adding the CALs to your license server.  And then it assumes you have RDS configured properly to know where the RDS License server is.

As ALWAYS, when you have problems, start by checking your event logs.  And I don't recall if it's still in your version of RDS, but look for the licensing diagnoses utiility in the admin tools.

You, as the admin, can still connect by using MSTSC from the command line and specifying the /admin option:

mstsc /v:YourServer /admin

I see this in the logs: The RD Licensing grace period has expired and Licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server has not been configured. Licensing mode must be configured for continuous operation.
Ok - so there is your answer.  You haven't configured the licensing mode.  I suspect you haven't setup the group policy that tells RDS where the licensing server is either.
