Powerpoint Incompatibility

I created a powerpoint with graphs that has data inputted directly in powerpoint. I have to upload and share this powerpoint with another person through Google Drive. I have a MacBook and the the other person (let's call him B) has a Microsoft. B can download the file from Google Drive and edit the data and graphs. However when B uploads it back onto Google Drive and I download the file, I am no longer able to edit the data. The graphs in the powerpoint returns to me as a picture.

The file I download from them is in .pptx form. We both have Powerpoint 2016.

Please help.

Interesting question!

I have a MBP too and the beauty of it is having PowerPoint:mac 2016 and PowerPoint 2016 for the PC running in parallel on it thanks to a VM.

So I made a quick test as follows:

1. Created a new blank presentation in PowerPoint:mac 2016
2. Inserted a new chart into a placeholder via Insert / Chart / Column, leaving the default data that is provided unchanged
3. Saved the file locally and closed it
4. Opened the file in PowerPoint 2016 for PC
5. Changed the first value
6. Saved the file back to the same local folder and closed it
7. Reopened the file in PowerPoint:mac 2016 and was able to edit the chart

So, can you make the same test to eliminate Google Drive as the culprit?

I then made a second test by uploading the file to Google Drive on Mac, downloading it to PC, editing it on PC, uploading as a new file to Drive and then successfully editing on Mac.

Finally, I'm not sure if you can do this now but it could be good to edit the title post to make it easier for people to find in the future. Suggest something like "PowerPoint charts changing to picture between editing on 2016 Mac and 2016 PC".
the other person (let's call him B) has a Microsoft. B can download the file from Google Drive and edit the data and graphs.

You need to ask B on how he edits the file.

You can use Google Docs to edit the pptx file but the end result will be what you are facing now.

Besides, B might have check convert chart into a picture to make the slide look better.
