Windows 2008 Server Mouse Stops

Recently, after a windows update, a problem with my mouse developed. At first, it was slightly sticky, then over the next ten days, it began to freeze more and more often until now it just freezes almost immediately after loading the startup. I have tried the following to isolate the problem;
Uninstall the update
Malwarebytes
Hard Drive disk cleanup
Registry cleaner,
Update driver
uninstall and reinstall
safe mode (problem still occurs)
plugging into a different usb port
using a different mouse
running SFC /scannow

The only difference that occurred in all of these reboots is that once or twice the freeze was followed by a BSOD. Also, the old mouse (Logitech wheel mouse) turned its light off when it froze, the new mouse (Microsoft brand) did not. Please LMK what I can do here.
Thanks for any help.

Someone else had suggested that very thing and I did it. And it worked. Thanks for the advice. What a strange thing to go wrong.

I'm glad I could help, and Thanks.
Well that didn't last long. Your solution worked for about a day and then it started freezing again. Is this a hardware issue and if it is, why would the mouse work so consistently on boot up--before Windows loads and using Windows install disk? Any other suggestions?
Since you tried it on other USB ports with the same result it must be a software problem, make sure all drivers (chipset, Bios, ... ) are up to date.
