iTunes

Hi
I know I shouldn't be having this issue, so I must be misunderstanding something. I generally don't use ITunes, except on occasion to back up my IPhone.

For music, I generally prefer my Galaxy, where I can simply connect it via USB to PC & drop entire  directories full of music without any issues.

So my question is, how do I copy a directory/directories with music to the IPhone using ITUNES.

When I have tried to drop it on my device, nothing happens.
I saw a posting where I needed to have "manually add music" to device. But when I do that it says my device is set to sync with a computer I no longer use and wants to delete all the music currently on my phone.

How can I simply set things up so nothing currently is deleted but I can easily drop a directory/directories full of music on my phone. What am I misunderstanding. I have had a few computers that I have had iTunes on and have backed up or synced to them.

Thank you.

If the OLD computer is NOT available .. then I'd suggest you login to the Apple website and de-authorize ALL computers and then just Authorise your new computer in iTunes.

In terms of LINKING the iPhone to the new computer .. the process will ALWAYS involve erasing the iPhone however if you backup the iPhone in that computer BEFORE you erase it .. you can then reload the backup after you link it.
It is covered in detail here and on hundreds of websites
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3836032?tstart=0

To summarise .. you should LINK the iPhone to your new computer.  It is a little scary because you get lots of messages in iTunes about "Erasing" and "Losing Data" but if you follow the steps of BACKUP .. ERASE and LINK ... RESTORE you should move with little issue.

I've done this several times over the years whether moving between different computers or upgrading my iphone .. and it has always gone smoothly.

There should be no need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes as I see no indication that has anything to do with the issue you have asked about.

Hi
Thank you both for your info on this question.

Just have on other related question that I just want to know if it is even possible.

While I don't have the old pc originally used to sync. I do have a backup of the ITUNES folder with the music.

If I go ahead with all of the instructions above, is it "possible" to later "important" the library I have backed up to the the phone after I followed the steps above??

Just a side question. If it's possible, I will open new question on that for specifics if it is at all even possible.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and understanding on this question.
If you have a good backup you should be able to restore it, begin syncing and move on. I have done this a couple of times
Short answer is yes. You can import music easily to iTunes. Drag and drop for on your backups
Thank you
