I would like to get some idea about Wild card certificates which we just procured recently. This is the first time I have been involved with this. We have 1 PC and a Server which host multiple web-pages for ourselves and some of our associated companies. Basically both the PC and Server are running Tomcat server for hosting the web-pages. I need a good understanding on how this can be implemented when we have multiple web-pages hosted on the same Server? Both the PC and Server are hosted in windows environment.

Wildcard certs cover multiple hosts. Normally they're generated to cover a specific host, like foo.com + then the same cert covers all hosts...

So www.foo.com + dev.foo.com + any-other-host.foo.com will all be covered by the same cert.

Once your cert is generated, then you just use the same cert for every Webserver configuration stanza for each individual host.

Note: Starting Jan 2018 https://LetsEncrypt.org begins providing Wildcard certs, so you can acquire these for free + setup once + forget forever (with correct auto renewal CRON job script in place).
