Transferring work related pictures

Hi

what is the best and safest method of transferring pictures in a work environment ?

Currently one of my employees takes pictures within the work environment on his smartphone and transfers to PC with a USB cable.  He uses the smartphone as it is always with him and is convenient to take the pictures of the products. Is it safe to connect the phone to the PC in  terms of virus attacks and malware attacks from the smartphone ? What other methods could be used ?  I am thinking that emailing the pictures would be safer as they would then come in and get checked with the AV.  If I go this way then I have to get wifi installed in that part of the building ?

any suggestions or recommendations would be welcome

thanks
Mike

depending on the phone type, Andy might have a valid point in that some phones take pictures that will be rather large and if more than a couple are sent at a time, the message will exceed size limits.  You can use an auto upload feature, such as

dropbox
box
ifttt
flickr
amazon photos
etc.

In this way the photos are automatically uploaded to the web service and downloaded to the users computer.  They are scanned on creation like any other file.
