P4300G2 cannot be utilized 100% when provisioning the LUN ?

Hi All,

Can anyone here please share some explanation and the comments on my Lefthand P4300G2 Storage array warning alarm?
User generated image

Event: EID_RECLAMATION_THRESHOLD_STATUS_SOFT E00020401
Severity: Warning
Component: SAN/iQ
Object Type: Cluster

The cluster 'PROD.CLUSTER.2.1' is becoming full. The cluster 'PROD.CLUSTER.2.1' Space Reclamation value is at 94.13% of capacity. This value exceeds 90.00%. When the cluster exceeds the Space Reclamation limit, the application writes to thinly provisioned volumes in this cluster may fail, and other tasks that require cluster space may be impacted. Some actions to reduce capacity utilization on the SAN are to delete volumes and snapshots, reduce snapshot retention, add nodes to the storage cluster, use thinly provisioned volumes, move volumes to other clusters, etc.

I have created RAID10 LUN and maximize it as 11.5 TB VMware VMFS in the production environment but I'm worried about the above alarm if it is safe to continue or not?

Any help and comment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You can disable space reclamation if you are not using thin provisioning, it uses up RAM and wasn't even available until version 12. It relies on the OS sending TRIM/UNMAP so you have to fool the OS into thinking it's using SSDs.

Ok, so what's the purpose of the space reclamation on the SANiQ v12.5 ?

It sounds dangerous as it can kill the LUN when the LUN is 95% provisioned.

Ok, so in this case can I disable the reclamation during the business hours ?

What's the impact ?
I presume so, no impact that I can see if it is not thinly provisioned.
Ok, so based on the screenshot above, does it shows thin or thick ?

I'm not familiar with HPE Storage Array hence posting it here.

Thanks, so in that case, I can safely ignore that alarm since my LUN is on Thick provision?
yes or change the threshold
Thanks all,

it turns out that in HPE SAN there is disk space reclamation process which makes it read only after reaching 95% utilization.
