how can I determine if a Magnavox VHS/DVD combo player is mechanically failing?
Hello and Good Evening Everyone,
I have a Magnavox DVD/VHS Combo player ( Model: DV200MW8) which I strongly suspect is failing. The problems I am having with the DVD side of this player are as follows: For commercial and non-commercial DVD's with movies or television programs, it will freeze up at a random frame, then, exit totally out of the show. The non-commercial DVD's are in DVD-R format which is compatible with this unit. The used commercial DVD is a double sided one which also should be fine with this unit. Upon visual inspection of these DVD's, they appear to be physically fine without scratches or cracks.
In closing, if someone could provide some technical or troubleshooting guidance in resolving the issue with my Magnavox DVD/VHS Combo player ( Model: DV200MW8), it will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
George

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for your suggestions. Just out of curiosity, is there a disc like tool that can insert into the DVD drive and clean the lenses of the DVD unit? If so, where can I purchase one?

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,
Thank you for your suggestions and links. Considering the age of this unit, which is at least 10 years old, I have decided to replace it. While I have not picked one yet, I will be using this link http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xemerson+dvd%2Fvhs+combo+players+dvd+recorder.TRS0&_nkw=emerson+dvd%2Fvhs+combo+players+dvd+recorder&_sacat=0 to make the selection.
