iSCSI on synology with SBS 2011 backup
Hey all,
I've got a set up with a Synology device that is the main data store (read: many user shares), and is processing backups to an off site destination. The SBS 2011 device is handing mail, AD roles and so on.
Since the Synology is doing the off site backup so well, I wanted to get away from using USB drives to back up via the SBS console. Here is where I got to:
1) Create an iSCSI configuration of 500GB in size on the Synology
2) Via the Windows iSCSI manager, connect to said device on the Synology
3) Start the SBS console backup manager wizard, and get to the step where it says 'YOU NEED TO FORMAT THIS DRIVE IN ORDER TO USE IT'
So, being a wise man - I come to you dear internet strangers. Is this iSCSI target smart enough to only format itself for the 500GB, or is it going to format the entire Synology box and set fire to the organization?
Forgive my ignorance here, but the SBS console has some powerful scripts and I want to make sure it doesn't go out of control when running this backup.
Cheers!
