Build my own broken links checker?

I want a tool that will run through our website once daily and send a report of any broken links it finds. I can do it either in VB and use Access 2003 here at the office or I can install it as a php app on our  web server.

Any ideas?

What is the definition of a "broken" link - is it a 404 HTTP response code?  Would you also want to catch redirects?

Have you tried the W3C checker?

I use LinkChecker add-on for Firefox from this page: https://frayd.us/extensions/linkchecker/

Do your links change often enough to check every day?

Broken link = any link that's any kind of dead end or break. The underlying data changes all the time, and yes, the links could get broken. There are about 14K different pages on our site, and things get disconnected from time to time in the data.
Unless you want to build the search facility as an intellectual exercise, it will probably be faster to choose one that is already built.  I've used a desktop spider / search engine pretty successfully.  Might be worth a look.

Ray,

I downloaded that and installed but I don't see any reporting option to have it send an email with results. Do you know if there is one?

Edit: looks like it's not available in the free version. Do you use the reporting feature in the paid version? Will it send you a daily report of any broken links as a visitor would see them?
