Approach to encrypt/ password protect some documents
I got a requirement from my client that he wishes to encrypt/ password protect some of the documents, before sending over to another user in another regional office.
By not writing the password into the email body.
How can the user in another regional office knows the password to decrypt/ open the protected documents?
What approach should be adopted? Is there any standard/ algorithm I can refer to? But we prefer not to use any 3rd party software/ utility.
Thank you.

Thanks for the comments.
@McKnife
Good to know option of S/Mime implementation. In fact, there are multiple regional office available and we try to minimize the effort to setup at each regional office.
Would S/Mime costs a lot in implementation?
@masnrock
I'm not too sure about what mail server is using by my client. I think it's not cloud base.
But it seems PGP could be the way to go.
Is that any PGP program that provide an interface that can be called by programming language?
@phoffric
Yea, did suggest a simple solution for sending password in a separate email but client said it could be compromised. So, this is not their preferred solution.
@Shaun Vermaak
This could be good and simple but as mentioned, my client don't want to use 3rd party software/ utilities as this could raise up maintenance support issues in future.

You could just use: https://onetimesecret.com/
It will only work once, so you'll know if someone else intercepted it. It's also much simpler than everything else.
