Third party messaging apps on company cell phones

I have recently seen an increase in my users wanting to use third party messaging apps, specifically WhatsApp, to transfer company information between them and other employees. I am curious as to the community's thoughts on this, and if you allow it, how do you manage it without it getting out of control or presenting security concerns?

Thanks for all the comments. These are corporate issued mobile devices with MDM. I already do not allow BYOD for management and security concerns.

Do you need to be HIPAA compliant or SEC compliant?

No it doesn't need to be HIPAA or SEC; however, the information that could be transmitted has the potential to be sensitive.

Any corporate messaging app suggestions? skype? Sharepoint? etc that anyone would recommend?
I would actually ask if you have a messaging solution now? I presume not... what are you using for email? If 365, then definitely look at Skype for Business especially if you want to potentially have your office phones to tie to it later.
We do not have a current solution. I am using Exchange 2013, so I guess Skype for business would be an option.
