[Need help on Exchange Sizing] Suggest ideal CPU and RAM for Exchange server 2010

I am looking to calculate Ideal CPU core and RAM, for a VM which can host up to 5000 Mailbox.

Also, any suggestion from anybody, who have Exchange Mailbox role virtualized in their environment, and what is your configure which is working satisfactorily.

85 cores?  Wow you must have some amazing hosts!
I have never run that size, but have run around 1000 with as little as 4 cores,  Remember with Virtualisation that more cores does not always mean more performance, as if you over commit your hosts you will end up with high ready time.

But as above - I would be looking to split this onto multiple servers running a DAG - you don't want 5000 eggs in 1 basket!
just need one of these fully populated!

If you want to live on the edge....
IOPs plays a huge role in this as well. You can have lots of cores, lots of RAM, but if the IOPs aren't there on your vhost you will kill any other servers on that vhost.

I would recommend an SSD Raid. We started using that recently and it's made a huge difference with our other VMs shared on the vhost. In the bigger picture, your also going to want to do a DAG with a load balancer somewhere in your network.

thanks everyone for your inputs, we have Nutanix hardware and VMware for the hypervisor,  going with 64 GB ram and 8 cup cores.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
