Windows 7 Internal Microphone

Could you kindly explain how I could re-install the internal microphone functionality on my Windows 7 machine, which I somehow managed to inadvertently get rid of ? I can't see any immediate way of restoring it. Many thanks, k.

Depends how thorough you were in getting rid of it!
Try right-clicking on the speaker icon by the clock and choosing Recording devices - what's listed in the window that opens?

ASKER

It says : 'No audio devices are installed'.

Whatever I did, I was certainly never aware I might have been removing the mic.

Ahh, well I chose to try the whitespace click and yes, there is a disabled mic there (which I have now enabled), but it is a Realtek device. Is *this* the internal mic then ? If so, that's great.

BTW, the PC is a notebook and has no disk drive. I can still post the other details you mention if you think necessary, otherwise it would be great of you could confirm the Realtek question, thanks.
It's likely to be Realtek as they make most of the audio chipsets for laptops/notebooks.
Quickest check is to see if you can record sound now
If you look up the notebook drivers usually it will include the manufacturer of the audio chipset.

Either way sounds like you're fixed :)
Yes, looks like it should be fixed. I can't try it straight away (it's not this machine that I am working on now), but I will. Meanwhile, I'll close this question with a big thank-you.

BTW - where would be the place to see those Notebook drivers you mentioned?
Great help there MASQ.

Manufacturer's website for the driver details or even the Notebook spec might tell you.
Ok, ta.
