VMWare SQL Express 10GB limit reached

I am getting errors on my vsphere server that states we have hit our SQLExpress size limit.  Because of this we can not connect to the vcenter server.  I have loaded the SQL Management Console and it does show that we have 0% space available.  I have looked to remove old VM's that not is service any longer, which reduced the space used on the Storage server, but didn't free any DB space.  What are my options;

Look at your Task and Events table ? How large is Task and Events table in the SQL DB ?

What version are you using ? - vSphere ?

How many VMs and how many Hosts do you have ?

ASKER

Version is 5.5

17 VM's  (2 off, but still in inventory)

Not sure how big the T&E table is, because I am doing a backup prior to shrinking files (log).

I am following "Purging old data from the database used by vCenter Server (1025914)" KB article.  Hopefully that will provide some space to help.  Ultimately want to upgrade from SQLExpress to SQL Sever 2012.  Is this an option with VM and are there any issues with doing this.  Also is it better to install a full version of SQL 2012.  Backup from SQLExpress and restore to the new full version or just upgrade the existing version?
