VPN Connection to Server 21012 R2

I've set up RRAS on the server using the Wizard for VPN only.

I've opened up port 1723 in the router pointing to the server. 1723 is also open in Windows Firewall.

Trying to connect a Windows 10 client and it attempts the connection then fails with "a connection to the remote could not be established so the port used for this connection was closed"

I can't find anything relevant googling this error.

Anybody had a similar experience & fixed it?

Sounds like you migh be running PPTP.

In addition to TCP port 1723, you will need to forward protocol47

The protocol is a higher order division within IP than a port. normally, you use TCP/IP (protocol6), UDP/IP(protocol17), and ICMP(protocol1). You need GRE(protocol47). Some routers automatically forward this if you forward TCP1723.

Mal, thanks for your input, but I'm lost with the Protocol vs Port bit.

I've set up a fair few VPNs to earlier versions of Windows Server and only ever forwarded port 1723, si i suspect the router is doing the rest with the protocols you mention.

Just in case it is not, how would one forward a protocol as opposed to a port?
Just for fun I set a DMZ rule in the router t the server and opened all ports in the Windows firewall, and it still does not connect. I'm thinking this is not a router or firewall issue.

It is the solution. The first contributor didn't help the issue (not criticism) and no-one else responded.
