Access to Shared Mailbox in Exchange 2010 with no personal Mailbox, is it possible?
Hi,
I'm currently working on a remote access project. There are number of third parties that will be accessing our environment remotely. These remote third parties require access to some of the shared mailboxes in our Exchange 2010 environment. Can they just access the Shared Mailboxes from Outlook without having a Mailbox themselves. If not do they require a personal Mailbox?

AD account which is created for external user, Shared mailbox creds are not required.
Below is the process to configure the outlook for them once the account and permissions are all set.
When they set up their Outlook ask them to type ShareMailbox Email address, and keep the password Blank and hit Next, this will next prompt them to type a user id and password, there they should be typing a user id and password which you created for them, that would be like Domain\USerid and the account password.
after that outlook should be configured with the Shared Mailbox, they will just need to replace the user id and password when Outlook promotes on next login again.

As explained by Sunil it should work. To access anything in domain you need to have have SID assigned and SID would be assigned to any AD account in Domain so you don't need the mailbox to access it .
