mdnsd task eating battery on Samsung Galaxy s5
I have recently found that the battery power on my phone is dropping rapidly. When I check the battery item in settings it indicates that mdnsd is the main user. What initiates this task and how do I kill it? I'm running Android version 4.4.4

Waze is a well known battery draining app. You need to mark it under battery optimization apps.

I removed the free version of ES File Explorer and replaced it with the paid version. Someone in the xda developer forum for Android suggested getting an app that checks for other apps keeping the phone awake and also to get Greenify which I did.
So, what is the current status?
ASKER
I want to try wake detector software to see if I can identify and other battery eaters. Your idea of removing ES File Explorer seems to have helped somewhat.
If you have no further question, please do a favor to close this question.
Thanks!

Removing es explorer helped somewhat. Getting a new battery helped a lot.
If yes, uninstall the Firefox app.
"So Firefox is possibly the culprit for the mdnsd drain bug? Anyhow, I realized that I forgot to mention I had this installed and running and certainly explains a lot. I'm uninstalling it right now, recharging the battery and resetting everything to see if this resolves it. I'll post back my results.
Thanks for posting the Firefox info.
******UPDATE*******
So by uninstalling Firefox, the mdnsd process stopped draining the battery for the rest of the day. After recharging the battery overnight and beginning to use the phone the following day, the Battery usage report no longer shows the mdnsd process!
So at least for me (and most likely others with Firefox installed and not the Parrot Drone app), this worked."
