Upgrade Windows 7 hyper-v machine to Windows 10

I am trying to upgrade a Windows 7 machine to Windows 10.  The Windows 7 machine is running on Server 2008 R2 SP1 Hyper-V.  The upgrade is failing.  Is there something I need to do to the Hyper-V machine to allow the upgrade to succeed?

How is it failing? It is just a machine, so that fact it is virtual should not stop the upgrade. Something else probably is.

When it performs the reboot from Windows 7 and starts the Windows 10 boot to perform the upgrade it gets a BSOD code: machine check exception
That says the drivers are not compatible. Now the main drivers will be the Hyper-V drivers, so that indeed may be the reason it cannot upgrade. But I though Hyper-V had Windows 10 drivers. If not, then you will not be able to upgrade this way.
So, any suggestions on how to proceed?
If you wish a Windows 10 machine, get a Windows 10 license and install fresh. You would have had to pay for the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10.

The Server 2008 version of Hyper-V may not support Windows 10, so get a trial version and see. That way, if your version of Hyper-V does not support Windows 10, then nothing lost.
Other than trial and error, is there any way to know if it should work?
Server 2008 was based on Vista and so Hyper-V from then is probably too old. Trial and error is the only way here.

If you need a Windows 10 machine on this server, you could use a new version of VMware to do it.

What's the reason for trying an in-place upgrade?

Did you run the Upgrade Analyzer before trying to upgrade? It would explain any possible roadblocks.
It's 2008 R2. Does that make a difference?
Where do I find the upgrade analyzer?
The in place upgrade is because I need 32-bit windows and I have 32-bit windows 7 iso.
R2 does not make a difference. Hyper-V from that machine is still quite old. Also you would need to find a 32-bit version of Windows 10. Those are not very common now.
You can get a 32 Bit ISO version by following the details here

https://betanews.com/2017/04/12/how-to-download-windows-10-creators-update-iso-direct-from-microsoft/

Where using chrome and installing the user-agent switcher addin so that you can get the direct links to the ISO's from Microsoft.
The Upgrade Analyzer should be available after running the Windows 10 Setup.exe file on the Windows 7 VM.

David, don't forget to return. Some feedback is needed.
ok. I will assume that it is an incompatibility with that version of Windows Server.
