chapter 5 here http://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Validated-Reference-Design/Aruba-Mobility-Controllers/ta-p/155472
page 30 here: http://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Validated-Reference-Design/Campus-WLAN-Redundancy/ta-p/287454

but consider using AO8 if possible. how many controllers?

AP will register to controller, like this:
1. discover MASTER CONTROLLER through one of the following methods
1.a - DHCP option 43
1.b - Aruba Discovery Protocol (L2)
1.c - aruba-master.domain.local DNS A-record

2. after AP connects to ;MASTERcontroller - it reads which AP group it belongs to, in within th AP SYSTEM PROFILE of the AP group there's a setting called LMS - which is the home controller for AP, and where client traffic is handled

Thanks Jakob for your post. This will help me surely.

One small query I have. I am having IAP will those access points will get registered in controller. I mean I just wanted to understand what type of access point are supported in controller.
IAPs needs to boot as Instant APs - connect to instant SSID and log on to IAPs and go to maintenance and choose CONVERT to Campus AP.

Or - if you have created a login at https://activate.arubanetworks.com you can preprovision them from the webpage. But creating a  login might take a couple of days
And please, don't use just the LMS en bkup LMS ip for failover of your APs.
Look into high availability config. Pretty easy to configure and your APs will failover in milleseconds rather then several long seconds.
