where is the error

I can say with complete confidence and 100% accuracy, "the program you just ran", but that doesn't solve your underlying problem. It would help us to know what program/script you ran and any parameters or input files it used!

Thanks. Not only did I not not know the line number of the error, i didn't know which file had the error. My degree is physics, not CS. I just spent an hour figuring out how to see a file that started with a period.
dwcronin, I posted how to see those files, ls -la, auto-correction/capitalize d the first letter...;did not notice..
[ depending on the context usually means test (a command that evaluates data within and requires a closing bracket (]) to indicate end of testing ...
I also listed the possible files where the issue is.
Has the issue been resolved?

I think that solved half of the problem and I will post the follow up question to finish this off. I took arnold's response that it's probably bashrc and david told me how to find it. That is finished and that leads to the next question.
