Chaining in ToIP

Hello everybody,
I am a junior telecom consultant and am working on a ToIP migration project.
My client has some specific needs to be satisfied in his new ToIP network and i need your help as soon as possible.
in fact i have 2 questions :
             * Can we chain 2 IP phones on the same PoE switch port knowing that the 2nd phone will be connected to an external power
                supply  ?
             * What are the potential risks or the disadvantages of chaining the PC behind the IP phone ?

It will be helpful also if you can share with me a document describing this topic.
Thanks in advance, i'll be grateful.

No, you can not connect a phone to both a Poe switch and external power, commonly you will fry the phone.
Are you considering connecting the second phone to the PC port on the phone connected to the POE switch?

Compared to what? What are you comparing when connecting the PC behind the phone.

Commonly, it is better to have separate networks for VoIP/phones and for data/computer network.

The poe switches commonly include qos prioritizing voice data.
Disadvantages deal with the phone, at times the PC port could be 10/100
Also depends on the Poe switch speeds.

At times, if wiring already in place, you have to adjust to what is available.

Thank you masnrock
But when you say it is technically doable do you mean that we can configure 2 voice vlans on the same Gb switch port which is an access port ?
When I say technically, you could have a single voice VLAN, but the bandwidth issue i mentioned would occur. The first one would connect by POE as intended, and the second would turn on with the power supply. Both would connect to the network. However, the second would most likely have bad voice quality. From what you cited in your question there is no good reason for multiple voice VLANs, plus it would overly complicate things.
Thanks lot masnrock
It is as clear as crystal
Have a nice day
