generic user accounts logegd on terminal server, network already share mapped, need windows to prompt for domain credentials

Hi

Novice windows server admin here, this is a classic problem but my setup is a little different so thats why I opened a new thread

I need to manage a computer science lab made of 30 thin clients running windows embedded standard 7, those thin clients connect automatically via script using generic domain accounts to a terminal server on windows server 2016.

Students will access their tools on the terminal server but they cannot save data on their remote desktops, they should either plug a pendrive on the thin client that is redirected to the terminal server or save it on an shared folder with subdirectories assigned to each group.

We use generic accounts because we dont have budget to purchase enough terminal service cals for all students (arounds 400) but the students actually have user accounts on active directory.

We need that windows prompt for their domain account when they try to access the networks share, the security groups were already created but windows keep using the generic account already logged on the terminal server.

How can we enforce the prompt?

Microsoft has a number of education related programs... not sure exactly where your school falls, but that may be worth a look. It would be easier to comply from the start and set things up correct using the actual accounts than it would to go the route you are going.

What type of school are you exactly?

Thank you,

Mcknife: The main issue is that they don't have a full time admin, so the plan was to use generic accounts for terminal services and then leave the share / security permissions on the folders to allow the students to save the data on a file server and delegate to the computer science teacher the task to reset user passwords only.

They guy that deployed the solution configured remote desktop services and created the students accounts,

He is traveling right now so  I was asked to create the file server and set the share / security permissions.

I'm schedule to visit the school in 2 weeks, I will try the batch with net use command and let you know.
