Prevent Windows 10 getting onto Win 8
I've got an old Win 8 box here and would like to update it to 8.1. How can i do that without it trying to update itself to Win 10?
I would install Never10, but it will only install on 7 and 8.1

Just run Windows update. 8.1 is there. 10 is not.
What type of machine? Laptop, Desktop, Retail, whitebox? Has it offered you the Win 10 upgrade?

Desktop. Haven't connected to the Net yet so don't know whether it's going to offer and upgrade or even do one without permission
It CAN do a sneaky, late night Win 10 Upgrade. I had that on a handful of PCs.
you SHOULD be able to get 8.1 through windows updates. it is the legitimate "update" to Win 8. (sadly, it's not very good.)
Set windows updates to manual and then vet them as they come through.
Have you previously rejected the Win 8.1 update?
I think it was available through the Windows Store App. Check there too.
