HP Printer keept rebooting 79 service error

Hi,

I have 3 new HP printer  connected to Windows 2016 print server with universal drivers.

Printers are rebooting randomly but it seems in the same time (i ping all printers and ping stop at the same time).

I guess its network issue but i cant find the problem.

Thanks for your help

Some more information will be helpful.

(a) What model of printer, (b) are they all the same model, and (c) how much memory is installed in the printers?

Hi,

I have 2 HP Color LaserJet Pro M252 and 1 MFP M377.

its brand new from april 2017

Memory installed is 256 MB

I disconnected network since 2 hours on one printer and no reboot so far.

Thanks
Reviewing what I see on the internet, it appears that this is one of those diffuse issues that nobody really knows for certain why it occurs.

At least one commenter states that sending bad Postscript to a printer can trigger it.   Another states that printing from certain applications can cause it, in particular one PDF viewer.

If the printers are stable as long as they are detached from the network, I'd be inclined to suspect that there's an application somewhere on the network that can jam up HP printers.  If that is the case, you could either (a) try to hunt down the offending application (or applications), or (b) bring in non-HP printers.

imo, it might be useful to test the issue by bringing in some non-HP printers and see if the problem persists.  If that solves it, I'd replace the HP printers with something else.  Internet commentary indicates that this problem has existed in HP printers for several years and there's still no clear solution.

Hi,

I have also a big MFP, and so far no issue with this one.

Apparently when one HP goes off, the other one as well.

Also i tried to connect from Wifi and same issue, when someone print its going off and randomly as well.

I will try to update firmware to see if it changes something.

Thanks

Hi,

I installed wireshark on print server and i saw a lot on ARP broacast with Ip of my printer.

Is that possible than broadcast cause issue ?

Yvan
Does this problem happen with any particular kind of document? I know that, for network printers like yours, it may be hard to determine just when the error happens. However, as it happens with 3 separate printers, of 2 different models, it would appear to be a problem on the PC/server, not on the printer/memory/network connection.

One thing you can try is to change PDL. For example, if you are currently using the PCL6 driver, change to PCL5 or PostScript - or vice versa.

Hello,

I did a wireshark then I identified a Camera DVR server as the one who do a lot of broadcast.

I unplug it from network for 30 min and no reboot during this time. I had to connect it back as i leave and camera are important but i will try tomorrow to see if the DVR is the issue.

Thanks

Yvan
Which driver are you using for those printers?

I agree with hdhondt: if you're using the PCL 5e driver, switch to the PCL 6 driver or vice versa.
Camera DVR? I'd recommend creating a VLAN for your surveillance related purposes, and moving the cameras and DVR to that. That should prove to be a relief on the network overall. Were you having any network performance issues given the mention of the broadcasts?

Also, you should be checking if any systems are trying to contact the DVR that shouldn't be.

Hi ,

This morning i unplug DVR and so far no issue with the printer.

I checked the cabling ad seems fine, so i contacted the vendor to see if he can do something otherwise i will have to make vlan to isolate it.

Thanks

Yvan
What model is the DVR? And what models are the cameras?

Hi,

I think DVR is Nuuo but not sure, no brand on it.

I dont manage DVR and Camera so i cant change ip and put it VLAN.

I have a cisco SG220, maybe i cant do something on it to prevend storm.
